Director

Mr. Burke has been the band director at SHS since 2017 and a music educator for 23 years. His previous positions include Director of Bands at Screven County High School in Sylvania GA, Director of Bands at Claxton High School/Claxton Middle School in Evans County, and Assistant Director of Bands at South Effingham High School in Guyton GA.  Mr. Burke’s ensembles have received consistent superior ratings at both GMEA Performance Evaluation and marching competitions.  The Marching Phoenix under his direction, have won multiple class, division and grand championships in North Georgia.  In addition to teaching band, Mr. Burke teaches Music Technology at SHS and is an active adjudicator and clinician.

Mr. Burke has a Master of Music Education degree from Kent State University.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Valdosta State University in 2004, where he studied trumpet with Dr. Kenneth Kirk and conducting with Dr. Joe Brashier. Mr. Burke is a member of the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), The National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and The National Band Association (NBA).

Mr. Burke and his family live in Gordon County. He and his wife Kristen have 3 children: twin sons Lewis and Jack (19) and daughter Clara (15). Mr. Burke enjoys fishing, hiking, playing guitar, golf, disc golf and Atlanta Braves Baseball.

Assistant Director

Lee Holley is the Band Director at Red Bud Middle School, where he has been teaching since 2021. A native of Dawsonville, GA, Mr. Holley graduated from Dawson County High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree from Georgia Southern University in 2013. He has been an active music educator ever since. Mr. Holley spent 6 ½ years as Assistant Band Director at Crisp County Middle School, and Assistant Director of the Crisp County High School Marching Band in Cordele, GA. Groups under Mr. Holley’s direction have received superior ratings at GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation. He plays saxophone and in his free time enjoys watching movies, gaming, and building models. He lives in Calhoun with his wife Kristen, daughter Penelope, and son Nicholas.

Majorette Instructor

Heather Roberts is a native of Trion, Georgia but has resided in Gordon County for 29 years. She received her B.S. in History from Shorter College, M.A. in Middle Grades Education from Berry College and her Ed.S in Leadership and Administration from Lincoln Memorial University. During her career, she held roles as a classroom teacher, lead teacher, assistant principal and assistant director of Special Education. She recently retired after serving Gordon County for 30 years.

Heather enrolled in baton classes at the age of 5 and competed at the local, state and national levels under USTA (United States Twirling Association). She held numerous state titles during her competitive years. She has taught baton classes in the surrounding areas for over 30 years and continues to teach baton in Gordon County.

After Sonoraville High School opened in 2005, Heather began working to ensure the creation of the majorette line. The SHS Majorettes made their debut in 2010. Since that time, the majorettes have had many consecutive years of superior ratings and won numerous Best in Class awards. They are best known for twirling fire to end the halftime show each week. Heather lives in Calhoun, GA with her husband, Andy. They have one daughter, Hannah Stewart, who is a former feature twirler at Reinhardt University, current teacher at Belwood Elementary School and assists in coaching the SHS Majorettes.

Assistant Majorette Instructor

Hannah is the Red Bud Middle School majorette instructor and assistant Sonoraville High School majorette instructor. She has been twirling since she was 5 years old, winning several state and national titles and becoming a feature twirler for the Reinhardt University Screamin’ Eagle band.   She is an SHS alumni and twirled for the Phoenix Majorettes for 4 years.

Hannah has a bachelor's degree in early childhood education from Reinhardt and a master's degree in special education from the University of West Georgia. She has been teaching in Gordon County Schools for 6 years and is a native of Calhoun, Georgia. She currently resides with her husband, Luke, and their two dogs in Adairsville, GA. In her free time, Hannah enjoys playing piano, traveling to new places, and baking. 

Color Guard Instructor

Kason joined the Marching Phoenix as an instructor in 2025. He was member of the Phoenix Color Guard for 4 years. He currently attends Dalton State where he is majoring in Radiologic Technology.

Drumline Instructor

Logan Lowrance is from Chattanooga, Tennessee and a recent alumni of Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. During his time at Jax State, he was a part of the Marching Southerners where he played snare drum. Along with the Marching Southerners, Logan was apart of the downbeat award winning JSU Jazz Ensemble 1 and Chamber Winds.

Logan also marched snare drum for the Music City Drum and Bugle Corps in 2023.

Outside of marching band Logan is a full time singer/songwriter. His hobbies include guitar, singing, building computers, and reading.
